FSF Urges FCC to Speed Transition to IP Broadband Networks

On January 28, Free State Foundation President Randolph May and Research Fellow Seth Cooper submitted comments in the Federal Communications Commission’s proceeding considering the transition from legacy transmission platforms to broadband services based Internet Protocol. FSF’s comments urge the Commission to exercise its forbearance and waiver authorities to replace its legacy monopoly approach with a much less regulatory, and more market-driven approach to ensure universal service through an interconnected voice network with basic consumer protections. FSF's comments assert that this change will provide greater funds for service providers to invest in broadband deployment, and will benefit consumers by increasing access to the advanced capabilities and prospectively reduced prices of new all-IP networks.
