Open Internet Preservation Act Introduced in Senate

On May 7, Senator John Kennedy (R-La), filed S.2510 - "The Open Internet Preservation Act." S.2510 has been referred to the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation. Sen. Kennedy’s bill is a companion to H.R. 4642. The latter bill was introduced in December 2017 by Rep. Marsha Blackburn, Chairman of the House Communications and Technology Subcommittee.
If passed, S.2510/H.R. 4642 would establish bright-line rules prohibiting broadband Internet access service providers from: (1) blocking lawful content, applications, services, or non-harmful devices; and from (2) impairing or degrading lawful Internet traffic on the basis of content, application, service, or use of a non-harmful device. The prohibitions contained in both rules would be subject to reasonable network management exceptions.

Rep. Marsha Blackburn Introduces the Open Internet Preservation Act

In response to the FCC repealing Title II regulation imposed on Internet service providers, yesterday, Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) posted a video on her Twitter account introducing the Open Internet Preservation Act. This bill would amend the Communications Act by adding bright-line net neutrality rules. The proposed legislation would make it unlawful for broadband Internet access service providers to “block lawful content” and “impair or degrade lawful internet traffic” subject to reasonable network management.
